The Agreement on the Conservation of Albatross and Petrels (ACAP) is a global initiative that aims to improve the conservation status of 30 species of Albatross and Petrels. The United Kingdom, including on behalf of South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands, ratified the Agreement on the Conservation of Albatrosses and Petrels in 2004, soon after it came into force.

South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands are the home of significant proportions of the global population of seven of the 30 ACAP listed species. For four of those species, the light-mantled sooty albatross, grey-headed albatross, northern giant petrel and white-chinned petrel South Georgia has the largest populations anywhere on the planet.
