Government Officer

The Government of South Georgia & The South Sandwich Islands are recruiting for a Government Officer to be based at King Edward Point.

We are looking for a skilled candidate to join our team to play a pivotal role in the operations and administration of this globally significant United Kingdom Overseas Territory. We are seeking applications from proactive and collaborative individuals who demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills and a strong desire to work across all weather conditions, both on land and at sea. Travel, accommodation and subsistence will be provided by the Government.

We are looking for someone who is:-

  • Flexible and adaptable to deliver a range of duties and to balance a diverse workload;
  • Experienced working in fisheries management or an environmental compliance role;
  • Capable of spending time at sea on the fishery patrol vessel and other vessels;
  • A confident communicator with good verbal, written, listening and diplomacy skills;
  • Self-motivated with an ability to problem-solve;
  • Comfortable working in a remote location;
  • Able to quickly build and maintain strong relationships;
  • Confident in making decisions on the ground without immediate supervision;
  • Competent in the use of IT packages including Word and Excel.

The terms:

Start Date:​early February 2027, deploying to South Georgia at the start of March 2027.

Rotations:​4 rotations comprising 6 months on South Georgia/3 months of paid leave

Pay: ​​£37,000 per annum
