Seasonal Government Officer for a 33 Month Contract

The Government of South Georgia & The South Sandwich Islands are seeking a Government Officer to work on South Georgia for 6 months during the austral summer tourism seasons.

We are looking for a skilled candidate to join our team on a seasonal basis to assist with the smooth running of this globally significant territory. Based on South Georgia, you will be delivering Government operations as part of a mixed discipline on-site team. Travel between the Falklands and South Georgia, as well as accommodation and subsistence for the period of the contract will be provided by the Government.

We are looking for someone who is:-
✓ Comfortable operating within a legislative framework;
✓ Experienced in tourism and biosecurity management;
✓ Comfortable spending time at sea on the fishery patrol vessel and other vessels;
✓ A confident communicator with good verbal, written, listening and diplomacy skills;
✓ Self-motivated with an ability to problem-solve;
✓ Comfortable working in a remote location;
✓ Able to quickly build and maintain strong relationships;
✓ Confident in making decisions on the ground without immediate supervision;
✓ Competent in the use of IT packages including Word and Excel.

The terms:

Start Date: Early Sept. in Stanley, deploying to South Georgia at the end of Sept.

Annual rotation: 6 months on South Georgia, returning early April.

Pay: £36,657.50 per annum pro-rata, 3 months paid a/l post season

2 * Post Officers for a 6 Month Contract

The Government of South Georgia & The South Sandwich Islands are seeking Post Officers to work on South Georgia during the austral summer 2025-26.

The Government of South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands runs a highly successful Post Office and shop in the old whaling station of Grytviken, South Georgia. Welcoming over 15,500 visitors from across the world who visit the Territory on cruise ships, yachts and research vessels, the Post Officer represents the Government to a wide range of visitors.

We are looking for someone who has:
✓ Exceptional customer service skills and proven retail experience.
✓ Experience using Point of Sale (POS) software (not essential).
✓ Philatelic experience (not essential)
✓ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
✓ A confident communicator with strong organizational skills.
✓ Responsible, self-motivated, and conscientious, with an ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
✓ Numerate and competent in the use of standard IT packages including Word and Excel.
✓ Detail oriented and able to maintain accurate and timely records.
✓ Undertake duties at the research station to assist the general running of the base, and playing an active role in domestic support, such as but not limited to cooking, and waste management.

The terms:

Start Date: mid-Sept 2025 – dependent upon ship schedules

On rotation: 6 months on South Georgia, returning early April 2026

Pay: £28,380 pa pro rata

General Builder, Carpenter and General Hand, 6 Month Contract

The Government of South Georgia & The South Sandwich Islands are seeking build team members to work on South Georgia during the austral summer 2025-26.

We are looking for skilled individuals to join our team on a short-term basis to assist with the smooth running of this globally significant territory. Based on South Georgia, you will be delivering Government operations as part of a mixed discipline on-site team. Travel to the Falkland Islands, where appropriate, and travel between the Falklands and South Georgia, as well as accommodation and subsistence for the period of the contract will be provided by the Government.

For all roles, we are looking for individuals who:-
✓ Are self-motivated with an ability to problem-solve;
✓ Are comfortable working in a remote location;
✓ Are able to repair and maintain interior and exterior of modern building and heritage mixed use buildings.
✓ Manage and prioritise own workload in order to complete repairs in a timely manner and in accordance with given timescales.
✓ Carry out planned preventative building maintenance in line with set programme of works.
✓ Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment,
including on-site hazard identification.
✓ Are confident in making decisions on the ground without immediate supervision;
✓ Undertake duties at the research station to assist the general running of the base, and playing an active role in domestic support, such as but not limited to cooking, and waste management.

The terms:

Start Date: mid-Sept 2025 – dependent upon ship schedules

On rotation: 6 months on South Georgia, returning early April 2026

Pay: General Builder: 45hrs/wk @ £25.00 – 27.50/hr;  Carpenter: 45hrs/wk @ £21.50 – 23.00/hr;  General Hand: 45hrs/wk @ £15.50 – 17.00/hr
