The endemic South Georgia Pipit cannot live where rats are present. At
the end of December 2013 pipits were seen in Hercules Bay and at

Why you should not throw sand, even if you are an elephant seal! A king penguin gets a face full of sand when walking through a beach crowded with elephant seals. The seals throw damp sand over their back in an attempt to cool down. This video is attached to the monthly website newsletter from the Sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia.

Elephant seal bulls vie for position on the beach in an early spring blizzard on the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia. Soon 200 females will be up on this beach to pup and then dominant males will be rewarded with the mating rights, but for now they need to warn any newcomers away from their patch. This video is attached to the monthly website newsletter from South Georgia on www.sgisland.gs

A curious Leopard Seal swims just off the beach at King Edward Point on the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia. The seal is filmed thrusting itself out of the water, and from underwater where it comes right up to the camera. Underwater footage of this animal, that can be dangerous to humans, has shot using a camera on a long stick. The colour in the water is a reflection from the hull of a ship. This footage is attached to the monthly website newsletter on www.sgisland.gs
