The Government of South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands is delighted to launch a set of stamps celebrating the history of mapping the island. The stamps released today are in the format of three se-tenant pairs each celebrating an important development in the mapping of the Territory.
The Government of South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands has become aware of information relating to the conduct of one of the fishing vessels licensed to fish in the South Georgia Maritime Zone for the 2016 and 2017 fishing seasons. The matters of conduct include two counts of unlicensed fishing activity outside of the South Georgia Maritime Zone.
Notice of Action Taken in Respect of IUU Fishing Activity Information: GSGSSI recently received information that linked the Captain of one of the vessels licensed to fish in its maritime zone to previous Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) fishing activity.

Management of non-native species is a high priority for South Georgia and in recent years tremendous progress has been made in restoring natural habitats by eradicating rodents and reindeer. More
GSGSSI has issued a formal warning to the Master of SV Jonathan. The warning was issued as a result of an unauthorised landing at a site clearly designated as a no landing site in GSGSSI’s visit application documentation. More
Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal has returned from her official visit to the remote sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia. During the visit The Princess Royal had the opportunity to see at first hand the unique environment and heritage of South Georgia, discuss the work of the Government and its partners on these and other issues, and mark the centenary of Shackleton’s crossing of the island.
